After a follow up with my primary doctor, I was told that pretty much all my tests came back clean (urine, blood cultures, CSF, etc), and that's always good news. This pretty much confirmed a viral infection, which is also, in its own way, good news.
Because viral meningitis is nowhere near the nightmare a bacterial infection would be, it's rare that they do further testing to find out which virus it was exactly that got me. With bacteria they would try to figure that out so they could pick the right antibiotics, but with a virus there's really nothing they can do about it.
SO I was told to take my ibuprofen and vicodin on a schedule, not just "as needed," for a couple more days, and to supplement this with the Flexeril I had lying around in my medicine cabinet at night. The last one is a prescription muscle relaxer I got after my car accident last year, and it helps a little with the stiffness.
At the doctor's they actually gave me some other, stronger muscle relaxer as an injection in my butt. Because nurses are jerks, she told me to pull down my pants to expose my butt-area, and then went ahead and injected it into what I would call my hip. I think they just like to make you pull your pants down to make you feel stupid.
Then I had to drive straight home before it kicked in, and it's a good thing I did, because once it started working I actually drooled on myself (hehehe)
So while I'm still off work a couple more days, and spending most of that time on the couch eating pudding and getting fatter, I AM getting better.
(PS my coworker has a theory I could have contracted this from our Korean intern... and the more I think about it, the more possible that is.)
